Turning the letter over in my hands I broke the wax seal. The elegant writing caught my eye as perfectly written calligraphy was not something I was used to seeing. As I read the words I felt a sense of dread, and if I was being honest a stirring of excitement as well, for the first time in months. I thought to myself it obviously couldn't be real, he was a legend only. While I certainly had first hand knowledge of vampires, this was the Master himself.
Being the fanciful girl I was I couldn't help but entertain the thought though, what if it were true? What if everything I had ever desired in my darkest dreams was actually out there in reality. The part of me that was still broken from the loss of Eric wanted to believe desperately. I found it a bit strange that I was even considering taking the chance on following another fantasy. The realist that had somehow found a place in the new me was screaming out warnings.
The dreamer that ached to be brought to life again demanded that I stop living in the past. I was completely torn between the need to stop the aching in my heart and warnings that seemed to be an Omen of what could happen should I follow along the path I was considering. Truly I had stopped living and felt like I was in a perpetual state of denial.
Holding the letter to my chest, I fought against the two opposing voices in my mind. Was this really a life that I had now, one voice urged me to take the chance what did I have to lose. Is it worth allowing yourself to dream again, the other voice warning me that it was easier to accept I was not meant to find happiness. I needed time to think to be sure that whatever path I chose would not destroy what little there was left inside of me.
Placing the letter down on the table I decided for once I would take the time to truly think about the path I wanted to take. My heart was no longer that of an insecure girl who could be easily swayed. There were consequences for every action and taking this step could either melt the ice that surrounded my heart or finish destroying it.
