Battlefield *A true blood fan fic story*

She had fallen asleep in Gabe's arms after making love to him until
the sun had began to rise. He was such an incredible lover, always
bringing out in her a passion she had never thought possible. As
sleep found her she was plagued by horrible nightmares. They
seemed to consume her as each horrific image seemed more and more
like reality.

She was standing in only a white cotton nightgown, her feet bare and
her hair flowing down her back being gently stirred by the cool night
air. Unable to move, she could only watch the battle before her eyes
in shocked terror. So much blood, cries of pain and the smell of
death for as far as her eyes could see, it filled her senses.

She wanted to scream as what seemed like every supernatural creature
she had ever heard of seemed bent on destroying the others. The
attacks were so bloody and violent that she felt her stomach churn
with nausea. She noted the Fae on one side of what she now considered
the battlefield, glancing in horror as her eyes found Ana. Pam,
Godric, Eric, Bill and the Magister seemed to head the clan of
vampires.

There was a power struggle here the likes of which had never been seen
before, at least in this generation. She could feel the need to
conquer and rule as every thought the Supernatural's had seemed to
permeate her brain all at once. The thoughts were so powerful that
she fell to her knees gasping for breath.

Covering her ears with her hands she tried to drown out their
thoughts. That battle went on and on, the blood of those she loved
soaking into the field along with acquaintances she had made in her
short time here. She wanted to scream out to them, beg them to stop
this war before there was nothing left to stop.

“There is no time now for a squeamish soul child,” the voice she
heard quieted all the other voices in her mind. She closed her eyes
trying to concentrate on that one powerful voice. “They will destroy
each other and every human along with them if a treaty isn't reached
soon,” the soft voice flowed like a soothing balm through her.

“Why are you telling me this,” Cara asked the question that burned in
her mind. "I'm only a human. What can I do?” The frustration of her
own weakness left tears pouring down her face. She wanted to stop
the senseless bloodshed, needed to help her friends, knowing that
countless of them would die in this battle.

“The Gods have chosen a human many times to intercede where they
cannot Cara,” the voice which was neither male or female informed her.
She lifted herself to her knees she looked up into the night sky.
“What would you have me do,” she said as she glanced again toward the battle
before her. “Accept your fate,” the voice told her, “we will give you
all you need to allow your voice to be heard.”

Standing on shaky legs she took one last look at the war going on
before closing her eyes and nodding her head. “I accept.” She was
immediately bathed in a light so bright that it blinded her for
several moments. She felt her body being lifted by unseen hands into
the sky and a power filling every inch of her body that seemed to
overflow and pour out from her fingertips.

It took her breath away as it consumed and flowed through her. Then
she felt herself floating in a realm between the real world and the
body of heavens, lost to time and consciousness. It was exhilarating,
yet terrifying, unlike anything she had ever heard of or even read
about. She was surrounded by love and felt safe.

She felt the energy manifest itself into the palms of her hands as
she saw a crescent moon appear in one palm and a star in the other.
Both symbols appeared small perhaps less than an inch in diameter.
“No one will be able to harm you now,” the voice told her in the
dreamlike state of consciousness.

“You have been afforded the gift of eternity. You need not eat or
sleep but may do so if you will. There is power in your hands to
heal, or to take life, but choose that path with care,” the voice
continued. "Be warned that darkness will attempt to consume you and
use you for it's own needs. The choice is yours but remember the fate
of many lives is now in your hands."

“We will not interfere again child,” the voice now seemed to include
legions of disembodied voices in harmony. “Choose the path you will
take and remember your decision will affect all those that you know
and love.” She felt herself pulled through space and time and
eventually waking in the bed she shared with Gabe.

She sat up in the bed with a start, glancing at her palms as her eyes
focused and gasping as she saw the two symbols engraved there. Her
heart began to race and she knew that somehow what had just happened
wasn't a dream at all. She glanced over at Gabe and thought of Ana
and her heart felt a deep sorrow and fear for the things that were
soon to come.

Having no idea what she was supposed to do now, she got out of the bed
leaving Gabe alone. She needed time to think and to be
completely alone. Making her way to the ruins, she allowed herself to
wander deep inside the caverns. Feeling a sense of despair washing
over her, she thought of the future that seemed to be just around
the next corner.
