How to be a GREAT guest host for Facebook Events!
You've been invited to be a guest host for a author related book release even on Facebook! What fun! So now all you have to do is figure out how to host your spot for an hour and keep followers entertained. HEY! I thought this was supposed to be fun, now you're telling me I have to work? Well, yes and no. Hosting an event is alot of fun, as long as you prepare first. It's all about preperation, baby! Remember the impression you give at the event, may be the attendees first impression of you, so you want to make it a good one. The following are "suggestions" and you also need to think about the age, tolerance level, and group you're entertaining. Since Tears of Crimson is a book geared toward paranormal romance and adults, these suggestions follow that theme.
So what's a good way to introduce yourself to this audience that's waiting impatiently for your appearance? Give them a quick rundown of who you are and what you're offering for the next hour. Remember just like a lead in for your book, you've got to make the quick sale to keep them interested! Here's a simple example.
Hiya folks! I'm Michelle Hughes, international bestselling romance author of fifteen books. Visit www.facebook.com/authormichellehughes and give me a like! I'm excited to join you here today on the debut of Tears of Crimson and while I'm here I'll be giving away three free copies of my eBook! Since my book has a paranormal theme, I'd like you to share a picture of your favorite type of paranormal creature and tell me why you like them so much. I'll give one person here a copy of my ebook chosen at random by http://www.miniwebtool.com/random-name-picker/ (include with this post the book cover photo or other promo material) you want people to remember.
This should get the attendees posting pictures and talking about their favorites, and give you a conversation to work off of. If you're hosting for an hour give this post fifteen minutes up and have three more waiting. There are other ways to choose a winner like Random.org but I've found the Random name picker to be faster and easier. You'll have to have notepad open to write down all the names of people that entered *that's the work part* to make the random name pic work. Great so that's one post down, three more to go!
Outside of being a reader, I'm also a little obssesive over travel. Tears of Crimson is centered around New Orleans, one of my favorite places in the world. Mardi Gras is the biggest celebration there. I'll be giving away another ebook to someone who answers this next question! If you were in New Orleans for Mardi Gras share a photo of the costume you'd be wearing and tell me a little more about it.
Getting the guest so share things they like is an awesome way of getting to know them and keeping them involved in a conversation. Like previously keep the topic up for fifteen minutes and move on to number three! Throw up a teaser for your book and find a question that fits that teaser.
Meeting a sexy vampire and surrendering to his bite has always been a fantasy of mine. To win my next ebook, I want to hear about your favorite fantasy. If you have a picture that gives a visual, even better! I like the idea of walking in Jackson's Square, and imagining a tall, dark, sexy, stranger resting against the iron wrought gate. Our eyes are drawn to each other and when he walks over I'm compelled to surrender to the night. Your turn!
People that have read Tears of Crimson know it takes place in the French Quarter, and if they haven't well they just got a little insight about my book that hopefully makes them want to read more. This is where you entice readers to come see what's in your book! Use your imagination and hopefully readers will pick up on that and share their fantasies too! Okay! You're time is almost over as a host. Remember to keep up with your time, because hopefully the next guest is getting ready to share his/her information. End it with one final push to get readers finding you when the event is over.
Before I leave you tonight, I'd like to invite you all to visit my page, www.tearsofcrimson.com where you can find out about all my latest work. For the last ebook (or giftcard if you're doing that) visit my blog (or facebook page if you'd rather) and leave a comment. When you're finished come back here and type done. (Also a good idea to thank the person that invited you or hosting the event here). Thanks so much for letting me spend time with you!
Easy Peasy, right? Obviously you're not promoting Tears of Crimson so you'll have to decide which topics work for your book or event, but I think this gives you a quick rundown on how to be a GREAT guest host for Facebook Events! After doing a few of these you'll become a pro and they'll be lining up to have you as a host again.
